A mega containership, the Mumbai Maersk, is aground off the coast of Germany. She’s about the same size as the Ever Given, which ran aground in the Suez Canal last year.
The ship is close to a popular tourist island destination. The accident brings into focus the difficulties of operating such large vessels.

The latest wrinkle in companies trying to make sure their inventory arrives on time: A US furniture company Loctek, is having a container ship built by a Chinese ship builder, to haul their products. The ship, which will be owned by Loctek will be ready in 2023. The move come as companies get more desperate to move cargo in the continuing global slowdown.

A followup on yesterday’s story about a dangerous salvage operation to save an adrift bulk carrier off the Dutch coast. Thanks to some amazing work by Smit salvage crews, the ship is now safely in port. It took two massive ocean going tugs to get her there.
