Today on the Ship Report, it’s my dad’s birthday. A little about him (Stu Rideout): sailor, boatbuilder, overall maritime enthusiast, and all around pretty amazing guy. My childhood growing up on boats (and constantly working on them) and how being “the captain’s daughter” shaped my love of All Things Maritime, and set the stage for the wonderful life adventure that is The Ship Report.

Part Two today concludes our a two-part Ship Report about the Coquille Tribe’s efforts in southern Oregon to help the state of Oregon restore Chinook Salmon to the Coquille River. The tribe would like to do more, but they’d like to co-manage the river with the state on an official basis, and enter into an agreement as one sovereign government to another.

A mega containership, the Mumbai Maersk, is aground off the coast of Germany. She’s about the same size as the Ever Given, which ran aground in the Suez Canal last year.
The ship is close to a popular tourist island destination. The accident brings into focus the difficulties of operating such large vessels.

The ship, which will be owned by Loctek will be ready in 2023. The move come as companies get more desperate to move cargo in the continuing global slowdown.
